About Home Age Checklist

Home Age Checklist turns one number — the year a house was built — into a practical inspection checklist. Every era of U.S. residential construction left signature problems: knob-and-tube wiring before 1950, aluminum branch wiring in 1965–1973, polybutylene pipes in 1978–1995, corrosive imported drywall in 2001–2009. The information is public, but scattered across agency reports and forum threads. We put it behind a single input.

Where the data comes from

Year ranges and identification guidance are compiled from publicly documented sources: CPSC investigations and safety guides, EPA guidance, InterNACHI reference material, NFPA standards and public settlement records. Every issue page links its primary source, and we re-check each range against that source on a rolling basis. When sources disagree on boundaries, we widen the range and flag boundary years rather than pretend to precision.

What we deliberately do not do

• We never claim a specific house has a problem — eras describe probability, not diagnosis.
• We do not sell leads, host comments, or require accounts. There are no forms beyond the year input and search.
• We do not display product prices or availability — those live on the retailer's page.
